Adaptive Sports Connection

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

Adaptive Sports Connection (formerly The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition – TAASC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that empowers children, adults, and veterans with physical and cognitive challenges through sports and therapeutic outdoor recreation.

Founded in 1992, Adaptive Sports Connection is an active chapter of Move United, a national 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization focused on improving the lives of wounded warriors, youth, and adults with disabilities by providing sports and recreation opportunities.

Adaptive Sports began as a means to rehabilitate veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam War. Today, Move United serves both civilians and the latest military who have sustained permanent physically disabling injuries while in Iraq and across the globe.

Over the years, they’ve impacted the lives of thousands of individuals and family members. From teaching a veteran how to water ski with one leg to helping a 92-year old hospice patient snow ski one last time – their programs change lives.

They believe in the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of adaptive sports and therapeutic recreation programs to help both individuals and families. They’ve opened up boundless possibilities for the over 200,000 individuals of all ages, and from beginners to competitive athletes, dealing with some type of physical or cognitive challenge in Central Ohio and surrounding communities.

Their team of trained and skilled volunteers provide lessons on sports skills and safety. They also teach athlete’s family members skills needed for each adaptive sport, so they can all enjoy sports together.

Their organization is volunteer-driven. Outside of hands-on sports and recreational activities, opportunities include marketing and fundraising committees, gala auction, winter sports challenge, event planning, property maintenance, bike assembly, coaching, and more.

They also appreciate donations and individual/corporate sponsorship to support their programs. To learn more: Support Adaptive Sports Connection - The Adaptive Sports Connection.

No boundaries. Just sports.

Special thanks to Sharon Schreiber, Executive Director and her staff for their leadership.
