The Open Shelter is an Advocacy Center & Day Services Shelter in Columbus Ohio for homeless and marginally housed people in Central Ohio. There are hundreds of persons each day who are forced to live “in the open”, on the streets, in abandoned buildings, on railroad land and under bridges.
This organization provides crucial needs directly to those in crisis. Coordinated, supportive services are also provided, directly or by referral. By providing these tools, they help those who are the most vulnerable in our community.
Opened in December 1983, The Open Shelter is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and has helped over 40,000 men, women and children have been helped.
A partnership-in-service allows them to respond to the needs of their most vulnerable neighbors, working with the Social Security Administration processing applications and appeals, continuing to provide payeeship services and assistance in securing/retaining housing. Through the generosity of their supporters, they also provide the basics of survival – hot meals, sack lunches, food, clothing, personal hygiene items, tarps and sleeping bags.
Please consider donating or other means of assisting; they can always use volunteers at The Open Shelter! For more information visit: www.theopenshelter.org.
