The Byron Saunders Foundation

he Byron Saunders Foundation is a non-profit organization created with the mission of providing Thanksgiving meals to families in need in Central Ohio and surrounding counties, counting on the generosity of the community to help make this possible.

Started in 1997 by Brian Wollenberg, it achieved 501(c) (3) non-profit status in 2002 and the organization was then named The Byron Saunders Foundation in memory of a friend who had passed away several years prior.

With the goal to have a chapter in every county in Ohio, they currently have chapters serving Franklin, Knox, Delaware, Fairfield, Union, Licking, Pickaway, Montgomery, Morrow and Richland counties.

It’s a year-round endeavor, but during the holiday months the need for assistance to families tends to increase. The annual goal for the Byron Saunders Foundation is to provide Thanksgiving meals to 4,000 families. It is with community support through volunteer time, food and monetary donations that they were able to provide 5,500 families a Thanksgiving meal last year.

The food is distributed directly to individuals and also through schools, churches, and charitable organizations already assisting the less fortunate in the area. In this way, the Foundation serves those in need with dignity and ensures the most appropriate use of our donor funds and food.

Ways to help the Foundation include volunteering, donating, or one of the easiest and fun ways to help them is holding a food drive at your church, school, business or organization.

You can also support them through the following charitable programs by designating the Byron Saunders Foundation as your charity: Kroger Community Rewards, Amazon Smile, Melaleuca and United Way of Central Ohio
